Alice Springs International AIDS Candlelight Memorial
Alice springs Event
Every year we hold an event to acknowledge this day (3rd Sunday in May) and to provide a safe space for people living with HIV, their friends, family and supporters to remember those we’ve lost to HIV/AIDS and reflect on the work still to be done in combating the AIDS pandemic.
The Alice Springs 2019 International AIDS Candlelight Memorial is being held on Sunday May 19 this year at the Flynn Church Lawns in Todd Mall from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
A relaxed evening under the stars! All are welcome to attend, with refreshments provided, DIY Candle making by donation and you can also take home a Memorial RED Jar Candle, as we recognise every day we think of the ones we have lost.
Please bring a chair or rug. Please take home your rubbish and leave the area as you found it.
The theme this year is "Intensifying the fight for health & rights"
The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial reminds us of the tremendous impact that HIV/AIDS movement has had on our lives. The Memorial emphasises the need for people living with, and affected by, HIV to join hands, reflect on the past, and honour the precious lives that have been lost. The Memorial also calls on us to share our stories of challenge, perseverance, and triumph to educate the current and next generations about what the AIDS movement has achieved over the last three decades. Finally, the Memorial asks us to work together, now more than ever, to sustain, strengthen and revitalise the global response to HIV by looking forward and preparing for our future free of HIV-related stigma and discrimination and with universal access to the full range of human rights, including quality prevention, treatment and care services for all.
We hope you can join us for this special candle lit evening under the stars.
