This year’s Darwin Pride Festival opens on Thursday with a program of 24 events over 10 days, a cultural celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community.  The Festival focuses on unity, equality, inclusion and diversity with a cultural celebration of our community through free and ticketed events.

This year’s theme is Unity, recognising the support received from the wider community during last year’s Same Sex Marriage vote.

The Committee is proud of the diverse program that has been curated which sees something for everyone – starting with the SKYCITY Darwin Pride Week Launch on Thursday 20 September at 6pm.

This year, the Festival is partnering with more of the community to deliver events.  2018 is the third year of the Youth Event held at The Quarter and presented by Casuarina Shopping Square alongside Darwin Pride Festival.  A popular free event for families and youth to participate in.  This year we are showcasing emerging young talent in the LGBTQIA+ community and guarantees to be a fun night for all.

Ensuring that the whole community can be a part of Darwin Pride, the Darwin Waterfront is hosting with us the Wicked NRG Rainbow Family Night Out this coming Sunday.  Two hours of fun entertainment and stalls, followed by the screening of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.  To end of the weekend, we have a wicked set by DJ Jonny Seymour from Stereogamous, Sydney at The Precinct from 9pm.

Darwin Pride is incredibly privileged to have World renowned DJ Jonny Seymour who has remixed for the likes of George Michael and Kylie Minogue you can catch him at Skycity Launch, Youth Event at the Quarter or Sunday at the Precinct.

One of the exciting events of the Festival, is the True Colours Choir performing a concert at Browns Mart.  Darwin’s first LGBTQIA+ choir and you will capture a sneak peak of their upcoming concert at the Wicked NRG Rainbow Family Night Out.

Darwin Pride Festival’s signature event is Transparent, presented by Northside Health NT.  A free forum for youth and people who identify as transgender or gender diverse being held at the Theatrette at the Museum and Art Gallery of the NT on Saturday 29 September from 12 noon. The forum features high profile members of the transgender community including AFL footballer Hannah Mouncey and LGBTQIA+@ advocate Dylan Barrett alongside local community members Evo Koulakis and Sianne Tate.  A candid conversation will occur between each of the presenters and will be a highly interactive afternoon.

In addition we have party celebrations being presented by Throb Nightclub and Party Passport; Pride Story Time at Darwin Library; Drag Makeover Workshop with Drag Territory; Lunchbox Law by William Forster Chambers; forums that discuss inclusivity in health, advocacy for LGBTIQ human rights and the genesis of first nations LGBTIQ history in Australia.  Our local advocacy group, Rainbow Territory are hosting an Open House, as well as working with Playback Theatre and Books Gone Wilde.
